Garden centre links with SWAP to give compost tips
GARDENERS from Somerset are being given the opportunity this month (May) to find out how to make compost from garden waste at a garden centre in the county.
People who want to grow healthy, well-nourished plants in their gardens this season are invited to an event dedicated to composting and organic gardening at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre in Monkton Heathfield from May 5 until May 11 to coincide with National Compost Week (May 4 until May 10).
Norma Moore, General Manager at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre, said: “We are hosting a Compost Awareness and Organic Gardening Week for visitors to the garden centre to find how to use compost to grow healthy and happy plants.
“Composting, using compost and having the right soil in your garden are both very important. It can mean the difference between growing healthy plants and under-nourished ones.
“I would recommend this event to anyone who would like to learn more about how to grow healthy, well-nourished flowers, fruit and vegetables.”

The garden centre is partnering SWAP (Somerset Waste Action Programme) to offer free compost advice and tips to visitors.
Norma explained: “Representatives from SWAP will be at the garden centre on Friday, May 9 from 10am until 3pm to give visitors free advice on composting.”
Visitors to the garden centre will be able to take away free SWAP advice leaflets and SWAP personnel will also be available to discuss customer queries about peat-free composts and composting products, which are stocked at the garden centre.
From Monday, May 5 until Sunday, May 11 the garden centre will have displays and offer information on how to make wormeries, and free advice on how to use compost to grow healthy and happy plants.
