Charity show is ‘welly’ good

CROWDS turned out last Thursday evening (April 24) to a charity fashion show at a Taunton garden centre in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

The money raised from the event at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield is still being counted but it is anticipated it will be more than £300. The final figure will be added to all the other funds the garden centre helps raise for the charity this year.

Norma Moore, General Manager at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre, said: “The fashion show was a great success. We are still counting the money but we hope to have raised more than £300 for Children’s Hospice South West whose work with children living with life-threatening illnesses is invaluable.”

During the event, staff from the garden centre modelled clothes from clothing suppliers Tayberry, Tulcan and Moshulu. There was also a raffle to help raise funds for the Hospice with prizes including a £50 voucher donated by Tayberry and clothes donated by Tulcan.

Peter Criddle, Vice-Chairman of the Bridgwater Friends Group, said: “The money our group raised will go to the hospice at Charlton Farm near Wraxall in Somerset. It’s amazing the facilities and care they provide for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.”

Children’s Hospice South West opened its first hospice, Little Bridge House in Barnstaple, in 1995. The hospice offers children with a life-limiting or life-threatening conditions respite, relaxation, friendship and a sense of community. Little Bridge House immediately provided support for up to 200 families.

The demands on Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Bridge House increased to the extent that there became a vital need for a second children’s hospice and in April 2007 they opened Charlton Farm near Wraxall, Somerset.

Having another hospice has instantly doubled Children’s Hospice South West’s provision and offers more choice to families so that they can remain close to home or take a complete break away from the area they live.
